Ruby group focused on teaching people that want to be programmers by doing. Pair programming is leveraged to expose members to various styles, methods and approaches to the same problem. A basic understanding of programming concepts is expected.

Yes there are developers on Long Island. We're a group of Long Island developers who share an interest in code craftsmanship and new technology. Professionally we work in Node.js, Ruby, Clojure, Hadoop (EMR), Mongodb, and a long list of related technologies. We organize, and contribute to, open source projects on github. We work hard and love to have fun in the process.
Discuss ruby development. Informal discussion among Rubyists. Participation from everyone is encouraged, interruptions are par for the course. No powerpoint presentations. No pulpit to pew discussions. We use a projector so everyone can type code and everyone can see. Meetings generally run an hour to two hours max and is followed by a social gathering at a nearby pub.
Everyone has ideas. Not everyone can make them happen. Once a month we get together for a weekend to take a few ideas, chosen semi-democratically, and make them real. It's a hackathon, a community, a bunch of fun. How it works: Once a month we send out an email for projects.
