Who we're looking for:
-------------------------- We are looking to partner with experienced web developers and business analysts who regularly turn away RoR projects because they are too busy. There's no reason to turn that work away if you have a trusted outsourcing partner overseas. The reason I am using the word "partner" is because we're looking to build trusting long-term relationships with quality people and quality clients. Why you would be interested: ----------------------------------- Do less work, less programming, and get paid at two or three times your normal rate. Here's an example of how: -------------------------------- As an experienced web developer in a hot economy, I'm sure you have turned down many job offers and project proposals. We offer a profitable alternative to turning away perfectly good work from perfectly good clients. All you have to do find out what the client wants, turn it into a written form, and send it to us. We'll get the time-consuming work done by the Philippine equivalent of MIT graduates, QA it, and deliver it to your production environment with a functional specification document and documented code. You just need to manage the communication with the client and invoice him/her. You can still bill for all of your hours at your regular hourly rate, plus we share with you 40% of the outsourced profit. That will effectively double or triple your hourly rate. A concrete example: ------------------------ Here is a sample calculation of how it will work: Let's say you bill at $60 per hour. Let's say that you talk to the client and write up specs for 2 hours, and that allows you to bill out 10 hours of outsourced work. Our cost is $20 per hour for the best computer programmers in the Philippines. That means the outsourced profit rate is $60 - $20 = $40 / hr. That means you get (your hours @ your rate) + (outsourced hours at profit sharing rate) = ($60 * 2hrs)+ (40% * ($60 - $20)*10 hrs) = $120 + $160 = $280 for those two hours of work. That means your effective hourly rate for those two hours has become $280 / 2 = $140 per hour. Therefore, your effective hourly rate has increased by a factor of 2.3 (= 140/60). If your hourly rate is $100 per hour, this same calculation would triple your effective hourly rate to $300 per hour. So as you can see you can spend less time on a project, do no programming, and get paid at two or even three times your regular rate. About our office: -------------------- I opened up an office this year (March, 2007) to get the hottest talent in the Philippines and regain control of our throughput from freelancers who were making me and my clients wait forever. We successfully and continually (as in right now) are outsourcing projects for seasoned partners who manage relationships with high profile including University of California San Francisco, Hilton Hotels (the corporate office in Beverly Hills), and Discus Dental. We have come a long way in nailing down our workflow, and software development processes, which are modeled after CMMI level three and above companies. We use SVN for source control, automated deployment tools like Capistrano to deploy to development, testing, and production environments. To help us automate the development process further, we use a home-grown, time-keeping, task-tracking, invoice-generating RoR software with multiple programmer performance metrics.... to make sure programmers are beating deadlines and man-hour estimates. Currently all custom software must pass our QA who has 10 years of QA experience at a CMMI level 3 company. We get our programmers from only the top two or three universities in the Philippines and who are really passionate about web programming. The morale in the office is very high right now, and I can tell people are really having a great time in the office and bonding with each other while assuming personal responsibility for their projects. Our core competencies: ---------------------------- PHP, MySQL, Flash, and gaining experience with RoR. Also we have a maestro Photoshop designer. About me: ------------- I have a bachelor's degree from two universities: Computer Science at ICU in Tokyo, Japan and Applied Math at UC Berkeley in California. Also, I got my MS in Biomathematics at UCLA. Web programming has always been my hobby, and I turned it into my job and now my business. I will be talking at the SF and East Bay Ruby meet-ups in November. I love Ruby on Rails and really would like to see more RoR projects get pumped through our office. So, I hope to meet you then so that we can talk more about this. See you soon! David :) BTW, you can reach me at dbitsolutions at g-m-a-i-l d0t c0m |

Insider Pages.com - Seeking Rails Ninjas
Hey Everyone, I'm one of two developers at InsiderPages.com. We're a local review site and yellow pages site that was just recently acquired by Citysearch (we operate like a start up but within the safety net of an established company and we don't have investors or any other BS.) We only have 7 employees so there isn't really any bureaucracy to speak of. We also don't live in cubes (we've got prime corner-floor real estate). Our site, which gets millions of visitors a day, is done in Rails. We also have an uber-database of about 15 million businesses (and a whole bunch of other stuff) that is ripe for mining and remixing. We need one (maybe two) really solid Rails "ninjas" to help improve the site. I say ninja because you wouldn't be "just a developer". You'll be able to wear many hats: designer, developer, product manager, pope, santa, stetson, and a wide variety of other head coverings/job titles. All of our developers are "end-to-end" meaning you need to be comfortable with XHTML, CSS, Javascript, Ruby, SQL, and even a sprinkling of good ol' C every once in a while. It's a great and flexible environment to work in. Our office is in downtown San Francisco but of course there's flexibility in working from home if you get fed up with the whole BART/Driving thing (there's free valet parking in our building - it's classy like that) You'd be salaried (handsomely) with great benefits (Health, Dental, Vision, 401k, etc.) This is a 9-5 meaning no "sweat equity" sort of crap. We all have lives, and so should you. Drop me a line if you want to talk more about the position, or better yet send me a resume and a code sample.
