Rails' database migration capabilities and rapid admin UI development make
it a great way to tie multi-platform development projects together. This
talk will discuss some of the opportunities and difficulties regarding coor
dinating all database changes\, working with Sqlserver\, build environments
on both Linux and Windows\, and fighting religious battles. Bio: Mike ha
s 4 years experience with Ruby on Rails on social networking projects and c
ontent management projects. His most recent assignment was working for Fir
stPaper\, Inc in Palo Alto (now www.skiff.com) on electronic media distribu
tion. See the East Bay Ruby Meetup site for more details\n\nBerkeley\, CA

: Learn about Amazon Web Services: a collection of remote computing service

other web sites or client-side applications. Most of these services are no

\, using REST and SOAP protocols\, and are billed on usage. The services in

: "How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love (Monitoring) My Site's Use
rs" Anyone who has used a Web application of even modest functionality has
likely encountered at least one problem that prevented completion of a des
ired task. In fact\, according to the Harris Interactive Survey\, 87% of
consumers conducting transactions online have experienced problems. Testin
g a Web application of more than the most trivial complexity rarely results
in preventing even glaring errors that can cost the site customers. To co
pe with this situation\, an ecosystem of customer experience management too
ls is rapidly growing. We'll survey some of the techniques that can help y
ou catch and cope with problems in your Web applications\, both before and
after going live in production. Bio: Al Chou has been with TeaLeaf Techno
logy\, Inc. since 2001 in various roles\, including QA Manager and Support
Manager. He is currently TeaLeaf's Professional Services bespoke developme
nt consultant and technical advisor. Al trained as a computational plasma
physicist and works on Rails-based Web sites when the demands of the horse
 ranch allow. \n\nBerkeley\, CA 94701 - USA\n\nWednesday\, March 17 at 6:4
