Open Mic - Member Spotlight
This month we'll hear from Outspokes.com, the brainchild of Arthur Klepchukov and Jerry Cheung.
Outspokes helps freelancers and consultancies collaborate within their teams and communicate with their clients. It's a widget that appears at the bottom of every page of your web site. This widget allows you and whoever you choose to easily and instantly collaborate while browsing your site. You can make comments on any page, report bugs down to the very parts of the page they affect, and try out design variations, all without leaving your browser.
Arthur and Jerry met in sophomore year here, at Berkeley, and bounced startup ideas off each other until one stuck. They've been working on Outspokes together since June. They've been Rails people since 2007 but the Outspokes widget has made them more JavaScript people than they'd ever thought they'd be.

Open Mic - Lightning Talk
Loqi Tamaroon will tell us about his plugin that allows a Rails application programmer to generate REST
resources along different conventions from the standard Rails resources, giving the programmer more control of what gets generated.

Presentation Abstract
Custom routing and other stuff learned by straying from the Rails beaten path. When your problem doesn't fit exactly what the Rails designers intended, you can find yourself swimming against a strong current. We built a multi-site hosting system that needs per-host routing, users, permissions, etc. We learned a lot, lost a lot of blood, and became opinionated along the way. I'll talk about routing, URL generation, problems with the Model, View, Controller separation and dynamically changing pages without restarting. I'll also talk about keeping your modifications clean.
