Hi folks! We have a meeting scheduled for next week! I will be giving a short (30min) talk on Rake and it's wonderfulness. Should mostly be an intro, but will be happy to cover any thing that I can about it. Casey Rosenthal will be filling in the rest of the night, all though I am not sure what he will be covering. I'll try to post an update later today to fill in the details! Sorry about that, but I hope to see you all there. Also, for those interested I would like to try and continue the tradition of heading down to the restaurant down the hall to have a bit more 'light hearted' conversation over good food and beverages. All are welcome! -Nick

Hey ladies and gents, just realized there was no notice here for tomorrow's meeting...oops! I know a lot of you are on the MESDA list so hopefully we aren't caught completely off-guard. So ya, there is a planned meeting tomorrow at 6:00 PM at Stackhouse Station in Westbrook. What I am going to cover (yes you get to listen to be blather on some more) is how we can use ruby, not as a focal point or main presence in our applications, but more about how we can leverage it to get our work done that in the end, may not ever actually be in an application. I want to cover topics including remote services, simple utilitarian functions (think along the lines of glorified shell scripts), and would also like to cover using JRuby as I think a lot of you folks are using Java for a lot stuff still. Also, if any of you could come up with questions or problem you are encountering with using Ruby on any topic. We can cover these at the end of the meeting, or as soon as I run out of stuff to talk about.

This meeting is being rescheduled to the beginning of March. It will cover Ruby and its uses in integrated various parts of your development projects. More detail will be filled in as we get closer to the date. If anyone has any experience in using Ruby for various integration work please share it with me and I can fit some related topics into the presentation. -Nick Stuart

This next meeting should be a good one. We are going to have a round panel discussion debating the advantages/disadvant ages of Ruby vs. Java. For all those that are sick of type checking and 'shoved down your throat' exception handling be sure to come support your favorite language! :) (All in good spirits...) If you are unfamiliar with the Westbrook and are unsure where the MESDA offices are please let me know. I'll do my best to give some more details. It is fairly easy to find however, and is a large brick building with with a big sign out front.
