Ryan Garver of ELC Technology will be presenting the next big thing on the web. If you thought Facebook API was cool, imagine the Facebook API for all social sites, now you've got OpenSocial. This effort is being championed by Google and others. More and more sites are signing up and ELC has developed a Rails plugin that will let you use this new standard with ease. ELC developed its OpenSocial Container using a combination of Ruby on Rails, and Javascript, allowing developers to quickly and simply deploy new OpenSocial applications. ELC's Container provides a secure host for Ruby on Rails developers to use the OpenSocial API calls in a controlled fashion. The Container also provides an open, well-documented, and portable platform to create new OpenSocial APIs that can be used for multiple social media sites. [1 hr long w/ Q&A]
Michael Slater and Christopher Haupt will describe how they built the BuildingWebApps.com site, an information portal for Ruby on Rails developers. The site includes a custom content management system for articles, a links database that is categorized by both topic and the type of link, and RSS feed processing. All built, of course, with Rails.
Dominic Son of LettucePrint fame inspires this open forum discussion: So You've Got Your App, What Are The Issue? Are you not getting the traction you hoped for? Are you users not following through on their transactions? Dominic will be around to fan the flames.
