Ray will talk about how he uses Dark BASIC and DarkGDK, both gaming resources from The Game Creators to make programming interesting for students learning to program. He will be showing demonstrations of the two systems, which are intimately linked since the DarkGDK is mostly a C++ wrapper around the functions in the Dark BASIC library. The system uses DirectX as its graphics engine and handles 2D and 3D grapic, display video and sound files and is a great little resource for writing all kinds of small applications.

As usual, food and beverages will be provided.

    •  Well I enjoyed it a lot, but I was the speaker. I had a good time showing the ShRUG group some of the features of Dark BASIC and Dark GDK. It was fun and I hope informative. We did get locked out at first which was an adventure of sorts itself.
    •  Interesting topic, DarkBasic. I also thought it was cool to hear about how the next generation of software developers are being trained.
    •  It was very thought provoking and interesting. I didn't realize there was this much support for development beyond rosetta stone in the area. Dark BASIC and Dark GDK is definitely something I'm going to look into for basic game dev for personal usage
