JeffMo has been working on a Ruby library for exploring genetic algorithms. His presentation will include a brief background on genetic algorithms and when they can be useful. He will also show his work in progress on generating Ruby Golf solutions using GAs. (Code golf is a kind of exercise or game where you show off your code-fu by solving problems using the fewest number of keystrokes.)

As always, food and drinks will be provided.

JeffMo's presentation was first rate. It stretched the mind in uncomfortable ways and expanded my understanding of what machines are capable of. Excellent work.

Unfortuantely, I have no way to get there for this one. Next time!

JeffMo is always right so the presenter must be terrible, but my perception is that when he gets a little close to home he tends to exaggerate.

    •  Well JeffMo is always a treat since he always finds interesting things to say and do and even his failures are fascinating and he dares to try cool and bizarre things so I enjoyed it a lot ... but then that is no surprise since I always enjoy it a lot ... I just think working programmers, struggling with all the real problems out there are among the funnest kind of people. You can't be a programmer and not have learned to deal with frustration in interesting ways. All the rest shot themselves long ago.
    •  Fantastic! Interesting subject, solid presentation, and plenty of good feedback from the audience.
    •  JeffMo's talk was great. Really thought provoking and engaging.
    •  Best time I've had talking about code in a long time. Really cool topic, presented in an easy, conversational style. The new space is fantastic, and tossing back a micro-brew was the icing on the cake.

This was so sweet! Robyn loved a chance to join in the exam.
    •  Very cool topic. I don't know if I'll ever have a need for a genetic algorithm, but JeffMo's presentation was certainly interesting and educational. It's also nice when I can participate in the discussion, albeit at a high level of abstraction.
