CleRB: Choose Your Own Adventure

  • November 13, 2008 · 7:00 PM

This will be a choose your own adventure style meeting. We have the option of a talk on using Git with Github (given by yours truly), or a Ruby Q&A: an open forum for any questions related to Ruby/Rails. Come ready to vote on what you would find more valuable! As usual we will be heading to The Harp afterwards for socializing. See you Thursday!

Excellent presentation by Joe Fiorini on Git and GitHub. Very informative to people of all skill levels weather they are new to version control or already familiar with Subversion or CVS or some other software. Joe did a great job of highlighting the strengths of Git as well as some of the potential stumbling blocks. Git is really great at what it does and the initial reaction of most to it's power and elegance it astonishment. However, as was discussed at the meetup, "with great power comes great annoyance." It can be frustrating to learn all (or many) of the commands, but it is rewarding to do so.
Joe broke down many of the advantages of a distributed VCS vs. a single repository model and even ventured into some more technical stuff such as git-rebase.
November was a very interesting and enjoyable meetup.
