Rescheduling from 10/26 It's been awhile since our last meeting, everyone has been incredibly busy over the past couple of months, but we need to get planning our next event. I'd like to get it scheduled for early November; can anyone get together this coming Monday to talk about the next meeting? Anyone interested in taking a leadership role in the group is encouraged to come! This meetup entry is to gauge interest, so please RSVP. If only one or two can make it I will reschedule. Thanks!

In our continuing focus on educating Northeast Ohio on Ruby development, we have decided to take a slightly different direction. Over the next 6 months, we will be developing an application using Ruby on Rails (the popular framework for Agile web development), starting from scratch, implementing new features of the app with every meeting. Each month will have a different theme, starting this month with "Rails from Scratch". This series is meant for anyone with interest in Ruby, from newbies to experts. It will be highly interactive, giving everyone a chance to get questions answered and feel comfortable with the topic. Basic object-oriented programming knowledge is assumed. Don't have Ruby or Rails on your computer? Stop by our Installfest table for help getting your machine ready so you can follow along. The schedule for this month's meeting looks like: - 6:00 - whenever Installfest - 6:30 - 6:45 Introduction - 6:45 - 7:00 Pizza - 7:00 - 7:15 Rails intro - 7:15 - 7:30 Git/Github - 7:30 - 7:45 BDD Workflow - 7:45 - 8:00 Features we'll be developing - 8:00 - 8:30 Developing features - 8:30 - 8:45 Retrospective Ready? Set? Code!

This summer has turned out to be busier than expected for all of us. Which makes planning activities for our meetings somewhat difficult. I'd like to take some time and talk about the next couple of months for CleRB and plan out what we would like to do. Some ideas that have been discussed are: 1) In between meeting labs to practice whatever was discussed at the last full meeting 2) Building our website so we can get off meetup 3) More installfests 4) Your idea here Anyone who is interested in doing something specific, or would be willing to help plan a future meeting, let's get together Monday at The Beir Markt in Ohio City (it's directly across W. 25th from the West Side market). If you can't make this but are interested in helping please email me (joe at faithfulgeek dot org). Thanks all! Joe

Automated testing is an extremely important part of any software system. LeanDog's Cheezy will be showing us Cucumber, one of the most effective tools for full-stack acceptance testing. Unlike other acceptance testing systems, Cucumber allows business analysts or other stakeholders to write acceptance tests in a simple, accepted format. Developers can then take these tests and make them an executable part of their testing stack. This talk will give some background on acceptance testing and go into using Cucumber in your Ruby on Rails applications. Please note the change in time for this meeting. We'll be starting around 6:00 instead of the usual 7:00.
