Automated testing is an extremely important part of any software system. LeanDog's Cheezy will be showing us Cucumber, one of the most effective tools for full-stack acceptance testing.
Unlike other acceptance testing systems, Cucumber allows business analysts or other stakeholders to write acceptance tests in a simple, accepted format. Developers can then take these tests and make them an executable part of their testing stack. This talk will give some background on acceptance testing and go into using Cucumber in your Ruby on Rails applications.
Please note the change in time for this meeting. We'll be starting around 6:00 instead of the usual 7:00.
“ I left. Meeting had been on for 2 +hours, and speaker had done nothing to introduce us to Cucumber.
For experienced Cuke users, he finally began engaging them after 90min. The rest of us, however, were completely left out.
We were supposed to start at 6, were called to eat at 6:45, and speaking didn't start til after 7.
When speaker finally started, he began a slow rambling tour of people he's met and known, but which have little meaning to me. Then he talked about frameworks other than Cucumber, again slowly and without direction.
At 7:45, I thought he might finally take on Cucumber, but he brought out totally unreadable screenshots. Then he skipped a bunch of slides--were these what I came to see?
Been looking forward to learning Cucumber here for 2 months plus. Drove 2hrs+ each way.
Most speakers I'd forgive as trying. This one runs a training company. He also owns the projector he couldn't manage. Most disappointing Ruby meeting in 3 years. ”
