ATTENTION: We're skipping February since our January meetup got rescheduled!

Agenda:

Traps and Signals -- Mike Hoskins
Threads and Gems -- Jason Clinton
Code Challenge -- Base 32
Lightning Talks!

We'd like this meeting to focus on some of the less typical topics (i.e. no web frameworks!), and we invite (beg) your contribution. Here are some ideas:

Alternative Ruby implementations (JRuby, Rubinius, IronRuby)
Building desktop apps with Ruby (Ruby-Cocoa, Shoes, fxruby, QTRuby, etc.)
Creating and distributing gems
Creating Ruby extensions, interfacing with other languages
Hacking Ruby's internals
Ruby 1.9
Strange and interesting applications of the Ruby language

We will definitely have space for lightning talks if desired and a code-challenge via the mailing list.

RSpec is a Ruby framework for supporting Behavior Driven Development. BDD is an alternative way of thinking about test-first or test-driven development that focuses on the desired behavior of software rather than testing the results. Acceptance criteria are expressed as executable specifications that are run against the codebase. BDD boasts the ability to capture requirements more accurately than unit testing and encourages simpler, decoupled code.

We will have a detailed discussion with several presentations and/or tutorials. If you are familiar with or work with RSpec regularly, we invite your participation. Please plan on limiting your talk to 20-30 minutes.

* Intro to the concepts of BDD (behavior vs. testing, terminology) - TBD
* Syntax basics, mocks, Rails, Scenarios, custom matchers - Sean Cribbs
* RSpec tools - Joshua French
* Converting from test/unit, etc - TBD
