Avdi Grimm will be speaking on "Confident Code," a talk given to Baltimore on Rails in January to rave reviews:

Stop the nil check insanity! Rubyists love their terse code, so why do we insist on littering our code with nil and blank checks? What can we do to stop being so defensive and get to a point at which we are writing beautiful, confident code? Avdi will share his thoughts and insights on how we might achieve this.
